Salmon or Chicken

Salmon Faverolles

Salmon Faverolle Chicken

The salmon faverolle reminds me of a cat, they are quite vocal and curious. However, they do have some dog traits, as they do get attatched to their owners and follow them around for either attention or treats. They are relatively calm, since they can handle being in a cage more than other birds. Because of this, this chicken is often located in smaller homes and regular suburban backyards.

Pros

A few pros for this breed are that just like the rhode island red, they have the ability to lay eggs in the winter. They are also considered a family pet, due to their slow and calm nature. Additionally, this species is labelled as a threatened heritage breed, which means that if you adopt and care for one, you have the ability to increase the amount of chickens in the species overall (which benefits the breed, preventing it from extinction). For the last pro, they are absolutely adorable! Have you seen their necks? It is just pure fluff. This chicken's fluff is what possibly makes this breed so chonky.

Cons

Some cons about this breed are that they lay small eggs, perhaps it is due to the size of the chicken, but the eggs are just a bit smaller than the normal large egg. So, it should'nt be too much of a problem, unless you are planning to sell the eggs in a mass production format. Another con is they are loud, this breed is prone to being quite talkative (which is sometimes considered a good thing). And as I said before, kind of like a cat, this breed will not be afraid to speak its mind. The last con is that because of their friendly personality, they tend to get bullied by other dominant chickens or birds within the area.
