Rhode Island Red chickens are known for being quite docile and friendly. Addtionally they are known for being sturdy and hardy due to the ability of being able to survive cold winters and being able to lay numerous amounts of eggs. Of course like all animals, every bird has a different personality. However, the breed overall is known for being quite social and interactive with humans.
These birds are known for being very productive (more productive than other chickens in the winter). The meat of the bird is also quite bountiful and of a high quality (but I will not be eating the bird, so it is not very important). Also, this breed has a good strong immune system, which comes in handy during the long and laborous winter. Lastly of course, their charming good looks. When one thinks of a chicken, they think about a red little bird that waddles about, and this bird is the exact profile of what a chicken is expected to be.
A couple of cons for this adorable beast are that, just like a teenager, this chicken gets sassy sometimes. And just like any other pet, they want attention. So, if you are not giving them the attention they want/ need, they will be sassy towards you. And interestingly enough, if they get sassy, the sassiness will affect the whole flock. So, be sure to give your Rhode Island Red chicken some extra love and attention. Another con is that since this breed is in quite high demand they might be a little tough to get/find in the first place.
